THE TUDOR TRANSLATIONS (DAVID NUTT; CONSTABLE; KNOPF)

Series Note: The Tudor Translations were reprints of translations of sixteenth century prose masterpieces from various modern and ancient European languages. The series editor of the First Series of the Tudor Translations was the English poet, writer, critic and editor, William Ernest Henley (1849-1903) and the series editor of the Second Series was the English literary journalist and author, Charles Whibley (1859-1930). The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography entry for Henley states: "A valuable project [of Henley’s] was his supervision of the splendid series of Tudor Translations (1892–1903), each work with an introduction by a leading scholar, and finely printed and bound. The series began with Florio's Montaigne and ended with the Tudor Bible, publication of which was in progress at the time of his death"
