TIGER TIM'S ANNUAL (AMALGAMATED PRESS)
Series Note: The Tiger Tim's Annual was published once a year as a tie-in to the magazine, Tiger Tim Weekly. The annuals (like the magazine) featured the adventures of Tiger Tim and his friends, the Bruin Boys and the Brownie Boys (amongst others).
Thirty six annuals were published in the period 1921-56. They were cover dated 1922 through to 1957 (that is, Tiger Tim's Annual 1922 was published in 1921, Tiger Tim's Annual 1923 was published in 1922, etc.).
The Bruin Boys first appeared in Rainbow Comic in 1914 and then appeared in Tiger Tim's Weekly. Tiger Tim and the Bruin Boys were created by the Julius Stafford Baker and the lead artist for Tiger Tim's Annual over many years was Herbert Sidney Foxwell.
Each Annual featured short stories, verses, picture stories, jokes and games. Each issue was a hardcover with glazed pictorial boards (with blue, red or brown cloth binding) and was lavishly illustrated with a colour cover, coloured plate at the frontispiece, and many other delightful illustrations printed in black and white or two tone.
Apart from the outstanding illustrations, these annuals (like the magazine) are characterized by a "mental", whacky, crazy humor and sense of fun which are greatly appreciated to this day.
