MERMAID SERIES
Series Note: This series, promoted with the slogan "The Best of the Old Dramatists", published reprints of English Elizabethan, Jacobean and Restoration plays. There were 27 titles in the series.

The British publishing firm Vizetelly & Co. launched the series in 1887 and published approximately 15 titles. The title page of each volume published in this series by Vizetelly featured a pictorial logo of a mermaid, with the following quotation from Webster: "I lie and dream of your full Mermaid wine."

Around 1894 the series was taken over by T. Fisher Unwin which published the rest of the series.

From around 1964 the series was superseded by the New Mermaid Series (first published by Ernest Benn and then, from the mid-1980s until 2007, by A. & C. Black in the U.K. and by Norton in the U.S.).
