BEGINNER BOOKS (RANDOM HOUSE)
Series Note:
The books in this series was published for young children ages 3–9. They were written and illustrated as entertaining and zany ways for young children to learn to read and were meant to replace the Dick and Jane primers which had been criticised in the 1950s for failing to engage the interest of children.

The first book in the series was The Cat in the Hat (1957), written and illustrated by Dr. Seuss (the pen name of Theodor Geissel), about "a tall anthropomorphic cat, who wears a red and white-striped hat and a red bow tie" (source). This book was a critical and commercial success, selling a million copies in its first three years in print.
