Publisher's blurb:
"London, with its great historical tradition, has food as varied as its people, some of whom have 'emigrated' from many parts of the country and from all corners of the world to settle in the capital. Some have set up their own traditions, but Londoners, including the legendary - and still flourishing - Cockney, have absorbed most of them - and their cooking. Thus the food of London derives from many places. The author has mingled London's history with many excellent dishes, ranging from the foods made famous by chefs such as Soyer of the Reform Club to the humbler boiled beef and carrots. Each recipe is faced by a period photograph of people, places and events, some taken as long ago as the 1840's."
